12/27/2022 0 Comments Band sham 69![]() In my opinion Sham 69 started to become a joke when they released stuff like "Hurry Up harry"and "If the kids are United" The second Album was rubbish as well,a punk concept album for fucks sake. It was to end in tears but thats another tale. I also followed a band called the Lurkers whose following had upset some skins by giving them a good hiding a few times. ![]() Being a punk and being Arsenal was enough to get me watched. Words were said but I was left alone but told to watch out in future. It was then some skinheads turned on me and the punks who'd followed Sham around. Sham 69 played third on the bill on two of the nights. The Clash had played there in the summer of 77 which had ended in a riot with the OB and bouncers so we all thought the same would happen. In December 1977 the Clash played 3 gigs at the Finsbury Park Rainbow. The middle class rich kids and fashion slaves who were going to gigs in London Skinheads for years but many were ex punks who had become pissed of with all Sham had built up a small Skinhead following from London. Other bands off stage They were starting to upset the young and the trendy punks. They played the opening night of the "Vortex" club in Wardor Street blowing all the I'd been a punk for a few months but was already getting pissed of with many on the scene More and more people were talking about them. They released a 12 single on "Step Forward" records which had been set up by people who had started the punk fanzine "Sniffin Glue" The single had the tracks Ulster, Red London and I don't wanna. ![]() I remember first hearing about the punk band Sham 69 around autumn of 1977. ![]() Heres a Arsenal lad's memory following Sham 69 around london during 1978/79,a good read. ![]()
